Certified Property Manager (CPM)

Money Manager | Monday, September 1st, 2008

This designation is offered by the Institute of Real Estate Management.  The candidate must fulfill both education and examination requirements.  The education requirement can be fulfilled in one of three ways.  One is to complete a series of required IREM courses.  A second way is to hold on of the following designations:

  • Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM)
  • Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM)
  • Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM), or
  • Retirement Plans Associate (RPA).

The third way to fulfill the education requirement is to hold a bachelor’s degree in real estate and property management.

The candidate must also meet a management plan requirement, either by submitting a property management plan that is evaluated successfully or by passing a Management Plan Skills Assessment test.  The candidate must then pass an ethics test and agree to abide by the IREM code of ethics.  Finally, the candidate must pass the CPM examination.  To maintain this designation, continuing education is required.
